How did this happen?
So, as with any kind of project, sometimes things can start off in one direction and end up in a completely different direction. This has certainly been the case with my solo project. When I started recording songs with my good friend, Clay Wray, in December of 2008, I had the idea that I would put some really chill songs together for an acoustic demo of sorts and play some local pubs/coffee shops to get my rocks off on songs that weren't fitting for the loud bars that my roots/rock/soul band, Jubeus plays.
What ended up actually happening has led me to now, January 6, 2010, where I have just finished a full length, fully produced record, filled with a variety of up-beat, medium-tempo and slow songs including string arrangements, horns, slide guitars, acoustic and electric guitars, organs, pianos, and backing vocals from some of the most talented, down to earth musicians in Richmond
that I've ever had the pleasure to work with.
How did this happen?
Well, a little blame falls on Clay Wray for seeing the potential in the songs. Some responsibility has to go to the super talented Daniel Clarke(Modern Groove Syndicate, Ryan Adams, Mandy Moore, K.D Lang..)for being the first to come to the studio and lay down amazing parts that called for more fun exploring. But ultimately, it's my own fault for adding to the list of songs to record and encouraging this progression and going with the flow..
All in all, though, I'm very happy with this decision and I think you're going to enjoy the album and I'm going to have a great time sharing these tunes with you in your respective cities.
